Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site as requested to observe the grading contractor (Carmichael) stripping topsoil from the building pads that have at least ten feet of structural fill to be placed. The existing topsoil appears to have about a 6″ to 8″ layer of organic dark topsoil underlain by approximately tw0 to three feet of dark topsoil without organics which is suitable for structure fill placement especially in the deep fill areas (or can be mixed with other fill soils). The writer recommended to only strip these areas 6″ to 8″ and place a thickened lift of suitable dry soils over remaining residual topsoil having high moisture contents. It was also recommended to place a thickened lift by pushing fill soils over residual in-place saturated materials to minimize construction traffic on existing subgrades (to prevent severe rutting and deflection). The writer also visited the off-site borrow source to observe suitability of soils that were to be used on site. The soil materials appeared drier today after excavation and stockpiling.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
