Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, an ASEC representative visited the site to provide quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and material submittals.
Observations:
-
Placement and compaction of fill for the storm trench between structures MHC0, MHC1, MHC2, and MHD1 continued during the site visit. A soil sample was collected and delivered to the laboratory for a Moisture-Density relationship (proctor).
-
Upon arrival, it was observed that work was actively progressing. Fill was being placed in approximately 1-foot lifts and compacted using a 9-ton sheepsfoot roller and trench compaction equipment.
-
Compaction testing was performed utilizing a Troxler nuclear density gauge (per ASTM D2937) and general probing using a 3/8″ diameter probe rod.
-
Density test results indicated that most of the compacted materials achieved the project specification requirement of 95% of the maximum dry density, based on the Standard Proctor (ASTM D698).
-
Note: Contractor incorporated rocks mixed with the existing soils during the fill placement process (see attached photographs for reference).
