Observations/Finding

As requested, a representative from AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) visited the site to perform quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and approved material submittals. The following observations were made during the site visit:

1. Earthwork Activities:
Placement and compaction of fill materials continued in the following areas:

• Storm trench from MHA0, MHB1, MHB2, MHB3, and MHB4

• Sewer trench between the existing manhole and the front of the building

At the time of arrival, our representative observed that work was actively in progress. Fill was being placed in 1-foot lifts and compacted using a 9-ton sheepsfoot roller and trench compactors.

2. Compaction Testing:
Compaction testing was conducted using a Troxler nuclear density gauge in accordance with ASTM D2937. General probing was also performed using a 3/8-inch diameter probe rod.

Density test results indicate that the majority of compacted materials met the project specification of 95% of the maximum dry density, as determined by Standard Proctor ASTM D698.

Note: The contractor utilized soils that included various sizes of embedded rock (see attached photos).

3. Proof-Roll Observation:
A proof-roll was performed on the building pad using a fully loaded tandem-axle dump truck. Multiple passes were made across the area. No significant yielding or deflection was observed during the proof-roll.
