Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Observation by the Writer on Ongoing Activities:

  • Proof-Rolling Activity:
Proof-rolling was performed on the deceleration lane/turning lane in preparation for concrete curb installation. The activity was jointly observed by the Paulding County representative, Mr. Mike Keneer, the GAB contractor, and the ASEC technician. The area beneath the proposed concrete curb displayed mostly stable soils but exhibited slight deflection under truck load. Based on this observation, both the Paulding County representative and the ASEC technician recommended a minimum of three additional compaction passes to improve compaction before commencing any concrete curb-related activities.

  • Compaction Testing:
A total of six (6) compaction tests were performed using a nuclear gauge on the parking lots and the approach road located on the right side of the entrance road (Shalley Road). Density test results met job specifications for compaction.

  • Storm Water Inlet Re-installation:
Re-installation work for a storm water inlet was observed at the center median of the entrance road (Shalley Road). The writer noted that the foundation below the inlet structure was not adequately compacted. As a corrective measure, re-compaction using a jumping jack was applied. Additionally, the backfill material surrounding the inlet was found to be insufficiently compacted. On-site recommendations were provided to the workers to properly compact the backfill in accordance with the project specifications.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
