Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (Wilbanks) for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor excavated topsoil from the roadway of Lots #188 and #189. Topsoil was placed along greenspace located on Lots #50 through #45. The contractor requested a proof-roll of this area. The proof-roll showed some pumping/rutting. The contractor excavated approximately 59 feet x 16.5 feet x 5 feet deep until stable subgrade soils were present. The contractor then began placing soil lifts of approximately 12 inches in thickness in the roadway and compacted via a sheep- foot roller and loaded tandem-axled dump truck.

Our representative density tested this area. Test results did not meet job specifications for compaction. After approximately 2 to 3 feet of fill was placed, it began to rain. The contractor quickly filled the hole with thickened lifts to prevent water build up. Our representative will density test this area on the next available work day and will recommended that the contractor excavate this area and properly install the lifts. Water management is a priority for the contractor in this area.

The contractor continued backfilling curbs located on phase 1.
