Observations/Finding

At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications.  The following observations were made during our evaluation:
Our ASEC representative to observe the placement of MSE retaining walls. It was noted that the base course was backfilled behind the blocks and the cells with No. 57 stone.  Every 2nd course a geotextile fabric was placed followed by an 8-inch compacted lift. No. 57 stone was utilized 1-foot behind the block and within the cells.  No remedial recommendation was required.

NOTE: On this day, Density testing was performed which failed due to high in-situ moisture contents being higher than the optimum moisture limit. It was recommended to scarify and aerate these soils following by recompaction.
