Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (Thompson Grading) for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The pipe crew backfilled SSMH C3 to SSMH C4. This line was density tested but results were not provided to the contractor. The pipe crew packed up and left the site before results could be provided.
The grading crew placed approximately 2 ft of fill on the lots across the street from Lots #6 through #10. Fill was placed in approximately 8 in to 12 in lifts and compacted with a vibrating sheep-foot roller. These lots will be density tested on a later date, after recent rainfall events and the contractor recompacts. Material is very dry at this time, and no water truck is present on site. Contractor continued placing blast residuals in roadway located below Lots #6 through #10 leading up to the bridge. Approximately 2 ft lifts were placed due to the size of the rocks in the fill. As the contractor compacts the area with an 815 sheep- foot roller, it appears to be breaking up the rock in the fill. Our ASEC representative recommended to not use this fill on the top 2 ft to 3 ft of fill in the roadway.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
