Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Site location: Azalea crossing – 7 Hills

Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (Service Titan) for the observation/testing of the placement of GAB. Our ASEC representative met with the contractors who began excavating the GAB. The depth of the GAB varied from approximately 2 inches to 6 inches across the majority of the cut areas in roadway. The soil underneath the GAB appeared to be a silty material with a high moisture content. Probe testing showed unstable soils, especially along the curb lines. The center of the roadway appeared to have a higher compaction. It was recommended to remove approximately 6 in to 12 in of soil and replace with GAB in these low compaction areas. The contractor agreed and replaced GAB. The contractor used a water hose to wet down the GAB as they compacted with a small vibrating smooth drum roller. A proof-roll will be performed the following morning.
