Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Site location: Azalea Crossing – 7 Hills
Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (Service Titan) for the observation/testing of the placement of GAB. Our representative met with the contractor foreman, a paving crew associate, and Mr. Mike Keener of Paulding County DOT. A proof-roll was performed with a loaded tandem truck across the GAB in the roadway. The proof-roll showed some pumping and rutting. Pumping/rutting of approximately 2 in to 6 in was present.
It was determined by Mr. Keener and the paving crew associate that the GAB was not properly soaked with water when it was compacted the previous day. It was also determined that the small vibrating smooth drum roller was too small to properly compact the GAB. The contractor agreed and ordered a larger smooth drum roller to be delivered to the site. The contractor proceeded to hose down the GAB with a fire hose and used the loaded tandem truck to roll in the GAB until the new smooth drum roller arrived.
Another proof-roll will be scheduled for tomorrow morning. If the roadway patches pass inspection, then the contractor will begin excavation of the other side of the street.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
