Observations/Finding

Our AS Engineering & Consulting (ASEC) representative arrived on site to observe field activities. The following tasks were performed:

As requested, our representative was on site and observed proof-rolling of subgrade soils at the entrance and exit way to Seven Hills amenities. The proof-roll was observed with members from Artisan, Paulding County, Thompson Grading and the paving contractor using a loaded tandem dump truck making two passes over all areas. Several isolated areas were observed having moderate to severe movement with rutting. Due to in place utilities the following recommendations were made for subgrade repairs.

1. Undercut the decel and accel lanes -6″and replace with additional GAB stone after Tensor stabilization fabric has been installed over the entire area. The total depth of GAB stone should be 18″ to be placed in one thickened lift with sufficient water placed atop the GAB then compacting to 98% modified or 100% standard.

2. Following subgrade undercutting of -6″ care should be taken to keep equipment off when pushing GAB stone over fabric.

3. Undercut entrance lane -4″ and installing Tensor fabric and additional GAB stone keeping equipment off the undercut subgrade layer.

4. Undercut exit lane -6″ and installing Tensor fabric and additional GAB stone.

Note: Recommendation to place full depth GAB stone is due to the lightweight silty soils that are high in in-situ moisture content.
