Observations/Finding
As requested, an ASEC representative visited the project site from 09:30 AM to 06:30 PM to provide quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and approved material submittals.
The blasting work between Manhole A10 and A11 was in progress by the Advance Explosive contractor. The blasting material was provided by powderman Company. An ammonium nitrate and water emulsion was used for the blasting. An average of 74 lbs of blasting material was used in each hole. Detonators with 25 ms and 42 ms wires were used for blasting. The holes were filled with gravel as per the specifications. Safety measures were followed, and the blast was performed at around 12:00 PM.
The drilling work between Manhole A 11 and A12 was in progress by the Advance Explosive contractor. Three drilling machines were engaged in the operation. The holes were drilled at approximately 7 ft × 7 ft spacing using a 3.5-inch bit. Depth checks were randomly performed and verified against the drill operator’s log sheet.
A total of 66 holes at a depth of 30ft, 7 holes at a depth of 32 ft, and 12 holes at a depth of 34 ft were drilled. The rock was encountered at depths ranging from 0 ft to 11 ft.
