Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, Amin Azimi, a representative of AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC), visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality assurance standpoint. The purpose of the visit was to verify that construction was being performed in general accordance with the project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and approved material submittals, as well as to conduct quality control testing in accordance with project requirements.
During the visit, the contractor was observed placing graded aggregate base (GAB) on Taxiway A in Phase 1E. A 14-ton drum compactor was utilized for the compaction process. Following the placement and compaction, compaction testing was performed on the finished grade GAB using a Troxler nuclear density gauge. The results of the testing indicated that most of the compacted material achieved the required minimum of 100% of the maximum dry density, in accordance with ASTM D1557 (Modified Proctor).
It should be noted that proof-rolling was not performed. According to Tony, the CMW Foreman, this was at the direction of Bryan Bonner, the airport inspector, who advised that proof-rolling was not necessary and accepted the work without it for Taxiway A.
We appreciate the opportunity to support this project. Should you have any questions regarding this report, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be pleased to further discuss our findings and recommendations.
