Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (Thomson Grading and Savannah Excavation) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.
The grading crew placed fill for the phase 2 cul-de-sac area. Fill was placed in approximately 12-to-16-inch sized lifts and compacted with a sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as loaded off road trucks rolled across the lift to check for stability. There was no severe pumping/deflection noted. ASEC probe-rodded the around this area and also found the lift to be stable. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor.
The pipe crew continued installation of pipeline SSMH 11 to SSMH 12. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. Part of the excavation runs through where the drilling/blasting of rock was conducted. ASEC recommended to mix the blasted rock with finer fill material to prevent voids when backfilling. The contractor is also placing a layer of approximately 1- to 2-foot-thick lifts of finer material over the pipeline before using the blasted rock to backfill. This area was probe-rodded and visually inspected, as density testing could not be performed on the blasted rock.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
