Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.

The grading crew began excavation of the footing for retaining wall #5. Once excavation was completed, ASEC tested the footing with manual Dynamic Cone Penetrometer testing. Test results showed a soil bearing pressure than what was specified on the wall plans. ASEC recommended to excavate to a depth of 4 feet and a width of 8 feet wide along the face of the wall in areas where 4000 psf bearing was required. In areas where the wall specified 3000 psf bearing or less, it was recommended to excavate 2 feet deep x 8 feet in width along the face of the wall. During this excavation, a solid base of weathered rock was encountered at approximately 4 feet in depth. ASEC probe-rodded the areas to check for soft areas. It was ASEC’s recommendation to place geogrid in the footing and then backfill with approximately 2 feet of No. #57 stone followed by a 6-inch cap of GAB. The grading crew decided not to place the rock today due to rainfall scheduled in the evening. This was against ASEC recommendations.

The grading crews spread topsoil and fill in the greenspace and slopes located around retaining wall #3 and along Lots #6 through #20. The fill appears to be properly compacted using sheep-foot rollers.

The pipe crew continued installation of sewer lines 2.1 to 2.2. This area was density tested and test results were provided to the contractor.
