Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. Upon arrival to the site, the site was visibly covered in ice from freezing temperatures.
The grading contractors are continuing to place topsoil and fill along the greenspace areas and slopes. The lifts were compacted via a sheep-foot roller.
The pipe crew is finishing backfilling of the sewer pipeline by Lots #20 through #26. There appears to be a large quantity of weathered rock and blasted rock present in this area. It was recommended to remove any large rock from the top 4 feet of fill.
The wall crew backfilled one basket but kept receiving failing density tests due to the high moisture contents and low compaction efforts. It appeared that the soil had some higher moisture contents in certain areas along the wall. As the contractor used the vibratory sheep-foot roller and trench roller, it appeared to increase the moisture content of the back filled material, most likely due to the freezing weather bringing the natural grounds moisture to the surface. The wall crew attempted to roll the lifts with both vibration and without vibration but could not receive a compaction result above 91%. The wall crew decided to shut down for the day and allow the soils to aerate over the weekend.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
