Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Crew 1 began backfilling operations at locations B8–B9. Backfill material was placed in lifts of approximately 6–8 inches. The first two lifts were compacted using a jumping-jack compactor. The next two lifts were compacted with a double-drum roller. The fifth lift was compacted using a sheep-foot roller.
Crew 2 began backfilling operations from point E1 toward Detention Pond 1. A single lift of backfill material was placed that exceeded the recommended 6-to-8-inch lift thickness. Compaction testing was performed and results did not meet the specified density requirements. The failure was attributed to excessive lift thickness and high moisture content in the soil. The area will require reworking by scarifying and aerating the material, reducing lift thickness, allowing the soil to dry, and re-compacting to achieve the required density before additional backfill is placed.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
