Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site to observe the pipe contractor (Savannah) continue excavation and installing of the 8″ ductile iron sanitary sewer pipe between manholes #14 and 16 bedding structures with the pipe bedded on No. 57 stone. The contractor also backfilled between manholes #13 and 14 using excavated rock fill in compacted lifts. The backfill was observed at elevations -10′ to -6′ below finished subgrade and was compacted using a vibratory sheep-foot roller. Compaction efforts were acceptable for rock fill placement. The writer also observed back fill operations between manholes #14 and 15 using excavated soils which were compacted in lifts and observed at elevations -16′ to -12′ below finished subgrade with efforts acceptable for compaction and stability requirements. The writer observed the contractor hammer hard rock between manhole #15 and 16 (8’x4’x 6′) to install 8″ ductile iron sewer line with an operational time of 1.75 hours.

The water pipeline contractor was also onsite today continuing to install 8″ ductile iron water line to Unit 4 phase 1A between Lots #26 thru 22 (280 linear feet) also installing one fire hydrant at Lots #26 and 25.
