Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Backfilling was performed and observed for the decel lane leading into the Dunkin’ Donuts complex. A utility pipe had been previously installed beneath this section. Gravel was placed and consolidated around the pipe to provide bedding and lateral support prior to backfill operations using structural fill.

Following pipe installation, structural fill material was placed in lifts to an approximate total height of 5 feet. The fill consisted of on-site soils, which appeared to be a red sandy clay. Moisture contents were slightly above optimum due to weather conditions but remained within workable range. Compaction was performed using a sheep-foot roller.

Upon completion of compaction, proof-rolling was performed using a loaded dump truck. The truck was driven slowly across the compacted surface to identify any yielding, pumping, rutting, or deflection. Subgrade soils displayed no significant displacement, deflection, or soft area during the proof-roll operation.  The decel lane subgrade is suitable for base course placement.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
