Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor continued installation of the water line V located on the southwest corner of First Avenue and Velva Way. The backfill material appeared to be oversaturated from the previous night’s rain. The contractor was using the bucket of the excavator to compact the soil around the telephone pole area. This pole is supposed to be relocated. Density testing was performed on the pipeline and test results were provided to the contractor. Soil moisture content levels were well above optimum.

The contractor mentioned mixing in GAB with the wet soil and recompacting it to achieve a better moisture content and compaction. ASEC recommended the use of M-10 sand to achieve similar results. It was also recommended to allow ample time for the soil to dry before continuing backfilling.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
