Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day:
On this day, work continued in the A3 extension area from Station 41+00 to Station 53+50. All remaining GAB (Graded Aggregate Base) was placed, with a water truck utilized to increase moisture contents as needed. Compaction was achieved using a ride-on smooth drum vibratory roller (see photos).
A meeting was held with UES, CW Matthews, and Lead Edge to discuss the existing “spiderweb” asphalt section located adjacent to the building, approximately 75 feet by 30 feet in size. The original plan was to place new asphalt over the existing surface; however, concerns were raised that this approach could negatively impact the performance of the subsequent pavement overlay layer. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the adequacy of the existing subgrade.
Two options were presented:
- Place asphalt directly over the existing surface, acknowledging the likelihood of reflective cracking and possible future remediation.
- Mill and remove the existing asphalt section and perform subgrade investigation/corrections prior to paving.
It was agreed that a follow-up meeting will be scheduled once the client has made a final decision.
No further observations were made.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
