Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Contractor started installation of manhole Z6-SSMH by preparing the excavation area and placing No. 59 stone at the bottom for bedding. The stone was then leveled for the utility installation. After preparation, the crew first installed the outer DIP pipeline and later installed an 8-inch DIP inside the previously installed DIP as the utility alignment crosses a creek area. The installation progressed toward manhole Z7-SSMH, with a total installed length of approximately 69 lineal feet. Following the pipe installation, fill material was placed in lifts around the utility and compacted using a trench compactor.

On the other side of the project area, the crew continued roadway fill operations by placing fill material across the road section and compacting using a sheep- foot roller. Density tests were performed to verify compaction requirements. One test met the required compaction specification, while another test failed, indicating that additional compaction was required before proceeding with further work.
