Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site to observe backfilling at the northside bridge abutment. The contractor began backfilling using on site stockpiled materials. These soil materials appear to be 5% to 7% over optimum which will be difficult to achieve the required compaction. The writer stood by to observe backfilling as the contractor continued to have equipment problems with onsite repairs being made.
