Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Upon arrival, a meeting was held with the grading foreman from Precision Grading (Bentley). It was determined that soil was being imported from two separate borrow locations. In addition, topsoil was being hauled off-site for disposal or relocation. Two representative soil samples were obtained and submitted to the laboratory for testing and classification.

Earthwork operations were being performed using a Komatsu D51PX bulldozer for spreading operations, while compaction efforts were performed utilizing a Bomag BW177PDH ride-on sheepsfoot vibratory compactor. A discussion was held with the grading foreman regarding the removal of large organic materials, including roots, limbs, and other deleterious debris encountered within the fill material.

Two in-place density tests were performed using a Troxler 3430 (refer to density report).  Elevation was unknown due to a survey not being completed.

A discussion was also held regarding the potential for significant rainfall within the upcoming seven-day period. Recommendations were made to grade and slope the exposed subgrade toward the lowest portions of the site to facilitate drainage and, where practical, to seal the upper lift to minimize moisture infiltration. In the event of substantial rainfall, it was discussed that any moisture-compromised material may require scarification/aeration and/or removal and replacement prior to continuation of fill operations.
