Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date the writer was on site to observe the paving contractor J&W make asphalt repairs at Mountain Ashe Lane using a Perma Pave asphalt mix design. The contractor placed four loads of the Perma Pave mix after tack coat was sprayed over existing clean surfaces of asphalt binder. The contractor also placed 146.81 tons of 9.5 SP-L/R.

The writer observed the curb contractor continue pouring the curbing type 7 over previous gutter base poured on 6/2/26 where a bonding agent was poured onto the existing pour. Further, the remaining curb was also poured which had been cancelled at 4:30 pm. The writer also observed existing subgrade soils for curbing at the roadway past Lots #41 and #42. The observed subgrade was probed and appeared to be too wet for curb concrete placement with the County requesting proof-rolling of all curb subgrade soils to determine repairs and approval. The writer recommended clipping saturated subgrade soils -6″ and replacing with base stone to save time for proof-rolling. This recommendation was approved by the County and the owner’s representative. The curbing contractor began clipping subgrade soils for curb and replacing with base stone.

The writer assisted in observing concrete placement for the bridge abutment wall second pour (south side of the creek).
