Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
After the required grade stakes were installed, the roadway sub grade elevation was checked and the crew determined that the roadway had been excavated below the required grade. To correct the over-excavated area, suitable fill material was placed in a controlled lift across the affected portion of the roadway.
The placed fill was spread and compacted using a sheep foot roller to achieve a firm and uniform layer. The crew then used a motor grader to shape, trim, and bring the roadway sub grade to the required line and elevation based on the newly installed grade stakes. After grading was completed, the roadway surface was finish-rolled using a smooth-drum roller to provide a tight, even, and stable sub grade surface.
At the future lot areas, the crew continued fill placement operations. Fill material was delivered using articulated dump trucks, spread and leveled in lifts using a crawler bulldozer, and compacted using a sheepsfoot roller. I observed the placement and compaction activities and performed in-place density testing on the compacted fill at selected locations. The density test results met the required compaction criteria at the locations tested.
