Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site to observe the paving contractor J&W continue subgrade preparation for the roadway starting above the Plantation Gas lines to the cul-de-sac after a rain event late in the afternoon on 8/17/26. The contractor clipped an additional -2″ of existing subgrade saturated soils to be replaced with additional base stone. The contractor began placing base stone over approved subgrade soils pushing out over the subgrade as recommended.

The writer observed the grading contractor Thompson continue placing topsoil materials in thick lifts with minimum compacting efforts. The contractor was reminded that in the slope embankment compacting efforts are required. This material was being placed at elevation -12 feet.

The writer observed the wall contractor RWS continue placing fill at the bridge abutment with the grading contractor assisting by hauling materials and providing additional compacting efforts using a loaded off-road dump truck. The writer performed density tests using a Troxler Nuclear gauge model 3430, serial no. 91643. Compaction results were in compliance with job specifications.

The writer also observed the grading contractor Thompson continue placing fill at unit 4 phase 3 future lots. The contractor was placing fill soils containing large boulders and is requesting lot numbers or elevations to determine suitability of fill placement. The contractor was reminded that boulder fill should not be placed within the top four feet of finished subgrade for the building lot pads.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
