Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
On the above date our representative was on site to observe proof-rolling of subgrade soils for Naturewalk Parkway between sanitary sewer manholes #3 and 2 using a tandem dump truck loaded with 18.26 tons of base stone. The subgrade reobserved at previous clipped areas recommended after proof-rolling using the off-road rock dump truck appeared stable under traffic and was approved for bases stone placement. The contractor began placing base stone over the approved area approximately 220 lineal feet both sides placing 395.94 tons at the above area proof-rolled and 56.91 tons between sanitary sewer manholes #10 and 12.
The writer also observed the grading contractor continue backfilling at the west side bridge abutment for the eight feet by twenty feet removed area (to tighten tension rods). The writer performed density tests during backfill placement using a Troxler Nuclear gauge model 3440, serial no. 91643. Compaction tests performed today were suitable for job specifications. The writer also observed the repairing of the damaged waterproof membrane performed by the wall contractor RWS prior to backfill starting.
The curbing contractor continued pouring 12 cubic yards of 3000 psi concrete mix installing 24″ curb at Unit 4 Phase 2.
The writer observed the pipe contractor Savannah continue installing 12″ sanitary sewer ductile iron pipe (DIP) at the east side bridge abutment between manholes #1A and 1.
The writer performed density tests for the roadway between storm structures B6.2 ST G1,B6 ST JB and B4 ST JB. Compaction results failed to meet job specifications and recommendations made were to perform additional compacting efforts prior to retesting. Also, density tests were performed at building Lot #1 at subgrade with failing results. The contractor was reminded that all lots at subgrade must be proof-rolled compacting using the off-road rock truck to achieve the 98% required compaction and prevent erosion damage prior to grassing.
The pipe contractor Savannah also continued de-mucking at Pond A and stabilization placing rip-rap at the head wall structure.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
