Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site to observe the paving contractor NWGP proof-rolling the subbase at NatureWalk parkway approximately 1004 feet between sanitary sewer manholes #10 and 13. Paulding County officials also observed the proof-roll using a tandem dump truck loaded with 17.60 tons. The subbase appeared stable under traffic with no apparent movement detected. However, it was recommended to regrade some areas having segregation and not sufficient depth measured near the curb line. It was recommended to add sufficient moisture to base rock prior to paving. The contractor began regrading subbase stone today.

The writer also observed the grading contractor Thompson continue backfilling at the west side bridge abutment using recommended stock piled soil materials having washed silts mixed with GAB stone. This material is suitable for backfill use with sufficient observation during placement compacting with a vibratory sheet foot roller and loaded off road rock dump truck. The writer observed fill placement and approved by probing using a 3/8″ diameter steel rod and proof-rolling during compacting efforts with an off-road dump truck. The writer also recommended using two loads of GAB stone for backfill at one foot off the abutment wall where there’s a beveled ledged within the top three feet of grade that is difficult to use mechanical hand tapping equipment for required compaction.
