Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative observed the paving contractor NWGP continue subgrade and subbase preparation at Unit 4, Phase 2 clipping recommended repair areas and placing base stone. The contractor also built check dams at the roadway to prevent erosion damage from an anticipated rain event. The writer observed the wall contractor (RWS) install reinforcing steel at the east side of the bridge abutment approach slab. The reinforcing steel appeared to be in compliance with project specifications for size, spacing and quantity. The contractor placed two mats of steel for the approach slab, #7 longitude bars @ 8″ on center with #5 traverse bars at 19″ for bottom mat and top mat having #5 bars both ways @ 19″. The contractor placed approximately 30 cubic yards of a 5000-psi concrete mix. The writer also assisted another technician from ASEC in molding one set of six (4″ x 8″) test cylinders. The writer remained onsite monitoring the complete pour and assisting cleanup of site removing loose trash debris preparing for the anticipated storm.

The writer also observed the curbing contractor J&W perform subbase preparation and pour westside outside radius curb at the roundabout.
