The site was visited by the AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative noted above for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site <span class="zm_inLnk">today:</span> Upon our arrival at Hunter Walk, our ASEC representative observed soil being placed in lifts for the section designated future Lots #432-435 (no station numbers or other identifiers were available). A Caterpillar 815F compactor, 745 off road dump truck, 740 off road dump truck, A Komatsu excavator, & A D8 Dozer were being used to move soil from the adjacent ridge to the lift location (see photo). A discussion with Nolan Hawthorne (contractor foreman) determined that nine (9) unsupervised lifts had been completed earlier in the day with lifts being between 12 inches to 18 inches in depth. No plans or specifications were available on this day. A soil sample was taken to be evaluated at the laboratory for a Moisture-Density Relationship (proctor). The area in question was probed with a 3/8-inch probe rod on the first completed lift. The probe penetrated 3 to 5 inches (at elevation approximately 888). It was observed that the off-road dump trucks were displaying some deflection and movement as they rolled over the previous placed soils. Our representative discussed about the additional compaction being needed with the foreman. A loaded off-road dump truck was rolled over the area to increase compaction. The current lift was improved. A recommendation was made to slow the placement of soil to allow for more compactive effort in subsequent lifts.
