Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
On the mentioned date, the following activities were in progress at the project site:

Placement of the first layer of Graded Aggregate Base (GAB) with an 8-inch thickness over the subgrade for the west deceleration lane.

Excavation work for the access road to the project site.

Installation of the stormwater inlet for the access road.

Observations by the Writer:

The subgrade at the deceleration lane displayed soft materials at two specific locations.

The backfill around the stormwater inlet appeared not to be adequately compacted.

Recommendations by the Writer:

a. Excavate and remove the soft material at the identified points of the deceleration lane up to a depth of 8 inches, then replace with compacted GAB material. This problem was resolved by the contractor while on site.

b. Properly compact the backfill surrounding the stormwater inlet in layers, using a jumping compactor or other suitable equipment.

Note: The east site deceleration GAB was placed last week and tested for density by Mr. Clyde Smith. Also, the proof-roll was performed earlier, with the county and construction contractor in attendance, for the west deceleration lane.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project.
