Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. <p data-start="142" data-end="343">The writer observed the ongoing embankment activities at the Parkway Seven Hills project. Both general probing with a <strong data-start="270" data-end="283">probe rod</strong> and <strong data-start="288" data-end="327">cylinder-driven field density tests</strong> were performed.</p> <p data-start="345" data-end="547">The <strong data-start="349" data-end="367">probe rod test</strong> indicated that the embankment area was relatively soft. Based on this observation, the technician recommended performing an additional <strong data-start="503" data-end="524">2–3 roller passes</strong> to improve compaction.</p> <p data-start="549" data-end="802">Subsequently, <strong data-start="563" data-end="611">five (5) cylinder-driven field density tests</strong> were conducted on a <strong data-start="632" data-end="658">2-foot embankment lift</strong> spanning approximately <strong data-start="682" data-end="706">1,000 feet in length</strong> and <strong data-start="711" data-end="731">78 feet in width</strong>. The tests were performed at the following locations along <strong data-start="791" data-end="801">Road A</strong>:</p> <ul data-start="804" data-end="1075"> <li data-start="804" data-end="854"> <p data-start="806" data-end="854"><strong data-start="806" data-end="823">Station 27+00</strong> – Depth: 0 to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="855" data-end="905"> <p data-start="857" data-end="905"><strong data-start="857" data-end="874">Station 26+00</strong> – Depth: 0 to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="906" data-end="961"> <p data-start="908" data-end="961"><strong data-start="908" data-end="925">Station 23+00</strong> – Depth: 6 feet to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="962" data-end="1019"> <p data-start="964" data-end="1019"><strong data-start="964" data-end="981">Station 21+00</strong> – Depth: 8.5 feet to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="1020" data-end="1075"> <p data-start="1022" data-end="1075"><strong data-start="1022" data-end="1039">Station 19+00</strong> – Depth: 9 feet to subgrade layer</p> </li> </ul> <p data-start="1077" data-end="1490">During the inspection, <strong data-start="1100" data-end="1159">large boulders approximately 1 foot or more in diameter</strong> were observed within the embankment fill. The technician advised the road contractor to <strong data-start="1322" data-end="1365">remove any boulders exceeding 12 inches</strong> in diameter.</p> <p data-start="1492" data-end="1634">Additionally, <strong data-start="1506" data-end="1532">three (3) soil samples</strong> were collected from the site and submitted to the main laboratory for <strong data-start="1603" data-end="1633">moisture-density relationship testing</strong>.</p> <blockquote data-start="1636" data-end="1747"> <p data-start="1638" data-end="1747"><strong data-start="1638" data-end="1646">Note</strong>: The corresponding <strong data-start="1666" data-end="1696">field density test results</strong> are included in the attached Field Density Report.</p> </blockquote> We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
