Observations/Finding
Summary
*
Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (Wilbanks) for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The technician observed the contractor place 1 lift approximately 8 inches in thickness over Lots #121 through #125 and #112 through #117. Fill materials tested were found to be much higher than optimum moisture content and was left to aerate in place to reduce in-situ moistures prior to compaction. <ul data-start="262" data-end="1071"> <li data-start="262" data-end="486"> <p data-start="264" data-end="486"><strong data-start="264" data-end="298">Debris in Embankment Material:</strong> Debris was observed within the embankment fill. The technician recommended that all debris be removed from the embankment lifts prior to compaction.</p> </li> <li data-start="488" data-end="769"> <p data-start="490" data-end="769"><strong data-start="490" data-end="513">Oversized Boulders:</strong> Several large boulders were identified in the embankment material. As a corrective measure, the technician recommended an additional <strong data-start="957" data-end="987">two to three roller passes</strong>. The contractor followed the recommendation and performed the recompaction.</p> </li> </ul> <p data-start="1073" data-end="1099"><strong data-start="1073" data-end="1099">Field Density Testing:</strong></p> <p data-start="1101" data-end="1238">A total of <strong data-start="1112" data-end="1153">four (4) drive-cylinder density tests</strong> were performed to evaluate compaction quality at the following locations and depths:</p> <ul data-start="1240" data-end="1463"> <li data-start="1240" data-end="1295"> <p data-start="1242" data-end="1295"><strong data-start="1242" data-end="1259">Station 23+00</strong> – Depth: 4 feet to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="1296" data-end="1351"> <p data-start="1298" data-end="1351"><strong data-start="1298" data-end="1315">Station 21+00</strong> – Depth: 7 feet to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="1352" data-end="1407"> <p data-start="1354" data-end="1407"><strong data-start="1354" data-end="1371">Station 19+00</strong> – Depth: 8 feet to subgrade layer</p> </li> <li data-start="1408" data-end="1463"> <p data-start="1410" data-end="1463"><strong data-start="1410" data-end="1427">Station 23+00</strong> – Depth: 1 foot to subgrade layer</p> </li> </ul> <blockquote data-start="1465" data-end="1551"> <p data-start="1467" data-end="1551"><strong data-start="1467" data-end="1475">Note</strong>: Test results are provided separately in the attached Field Density Report.</p> </blockquote> <p data-start="1553" data-end="1598"><strong data-start="1553" data-end="1598">Equipment Used for Embankment Operations:</strong></p> <ul data-start="1600" data-end="1656"> <li data-start="1600" data-end="1613"> <p data-start="1602" data-end="1613">2 Rollers</p> </li> <li data-start="1614" data-end="1626"> <p data-start="1616" data-end="1626">2 Dozers</p> </li> <li data-start="1627" data-end="1639"> <p data-start="1629" data-end="1639">4 Trucks</p> </li> <li data-start="1640" data-end="1656"> <p data-start="1642" data-end="1656">3 Excavators</p> </li> </ul> We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project.
