Summary *

As requested, an ASEC representative visited the project site from 09:30 AM to 06:30 PM to provide quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and approved material submittals.

The drilling work between Manhole 9A and A10 was in progress by Advance Explosive contractor. Three drilling machines were engaged in the operation. The holes were drilled at approximately 7 ft × 7 ft spacing using a 3.5-inch bit. Depth checks were randomly performed and verified against the drill operator’s log sheet.

A total of 115 holes at a depth of 30 ft, 28 holes at a depth of 20 ft, 3 holes at 25 ft, 3 holes at 26 ft, 3 holes at 27 ft, 3 holes at 28 ft, 3 holes at 29 ft, and 6 holes at 32 ft were drilled. The rock was encountered at depths ranging from 2 ft to 12 ft.

The embankment work was ongoing in Lots #9, #10, and #11, at approximate elevations ranging from -4 ft to finish grade. Three nuclear gauge tests were performed in Lots #10, #11, and #12.

One crew of the embankment contractor was working between Stations 42+00 and 44+00. Four lifts, each 12 inches thick, were placed and compacted. Approximately three additional lifts were planned for placement the following day.
