Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. On the above date our representative was on site to observe subgrade preparation by removal of organic debris and topsoil. The subgrade was proof-rolled using a loaded off-road dump truck making two passes over all areas with no apparent movement observed. The subgrade appeared stable and was suitable for fill placement. Most areas that were stripped and observed was for slope embankment from the north edge of the decel lane. The remaining roadway at the existing slope continues to be stripped with recommendations to remove organic debris and topsoil (also benching into the existing slope to achieve suitable compaction). The writer also observed the beginning of fill placement at the deepest fill areas at the existing drainage pipe. The first two feet of placed fill was observed by probing and proof-rolling and was approved for additional fill placement which will be monitored and tested by another technician arriving on site. The writer also observed drilling for the blast rock at the pond. See attached log. Blasting data for the day’s work indicates that drilling was conducted in the vicinity of the proposed pond using a mass rock pattern. The grid spacing, as recorded in the attached drilling log, was measured at 8 feet by 8 feet. Based on standard field practices and previous experience, an overdrill depth of 3 feet was assumed for calculation purposes. If this assumption is not accurate, please advise so that the calculations can be adjusted accordingly. Using these parameters, the total calculated volume of mass rock drilled on this day is estimated to be 2,465.19 cubic yards. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
