Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor continued placing lifts of approximately 6 in to 8 in in thickness across the commercial lot area located around the front detention pond. The lifts were compacted using an 815 sheep's foot roller. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. It was recommended to recompact the first lift of the morning due to failing density tests. The contractor agreed, and after rolling the lift with a loaded off-road truck, density tests began passing. There was no severe pumping or rutting observed. The lot appears to be stable and well compacted. The contractor continued to build up the bank to the detention pond below Lot #4 and around Lot #5. The contractor is making an effort to have this bank built up over the drainage structure before the rainfall forecasted for the weekend. Part of this fill area includes the roadway in front of Lots #4 and #5. Density testing was performed along this bank/roadway and test results were provided to the contractor. ASEC watched as loaded dump trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping/rutting observed. The contractor placed topsoil in the bottom of the detention pond. This topsoil was compacted with a sheep-foot roller. The contractor continued placing lifts on the approximate location of Lots #8 through #13 and #52 through #60. This area is a deep fill area consisting of +20 feet of fill. The contractor placed approximate 8- to 12-inch-thick lifts in this area and compacted with a sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as loaded dump trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping/rutting observed. It was recommended to remove any large organics from fill prior to compaction. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
