Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor continued placing lifts of approximately 6 to 8 inches in thickness across the commercial lots located around the front detention pond. Lifts were compacted with an 815 sheep-foot roller. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. ASEC watched as loaded dump trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping or rutting present. The contractor continued to build up the slope and roadway in front of Lots #4 and #5. The contractor is attempting to build the bank of the detention pond up above the drainage structure before the forecasted rainfall later this evening and this weekend. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. ASEC watched as loaded dump trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping or rutting present. The contractor continued placing lifts of approximately 8 to 12 inches in thickness across the deep fill area of Lots #8 through #13 and #52 through #60. Lifts were compacted with a sheep-foot roller. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. It was recommended to remove any large organics from fill before compaction. Some of the fill has a large amount of organics. This was pointed out to Daniel (NG Grading) to be addressed. ASEC also went to each excavator and dozer and showed them pictures of the organics and recommended to discard any large organics when loading trucks. The contractor began installation of a water line along the deceleration lane near Lot #1. Once this line is backfilled, ASEC will density test the pipeline backfill. ASEC reviewed the retaining wall plans with Daniel and Matt (NG Grading). ASEC noticed the retaining wall specs appeared to be very high for bearing capacity. This information was discussed with ASEC supervisors. The wall contractors do not appear to be onsite at this time to review plans. NG Grading plans to review the wall specs with the wall contractors on the following Monday after Thanksgiving (December 1st). This is when the wall contractors are scheduled to be onsite. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
