Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor continued placing lifts in approximately 6 to 12 inches in size across the commercial lot by the front pond and Lots #8 through #13 and # 52 through #60. Lifts were compacted using a sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as a loaded off-road truck rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There was no severe deflection or pumping present, and the lifts appeared to be stable. The contractor removed topsoil from in between the approximate area of Lots #13 through #20. A proof-roll was performed on the approximate area of Lot #14 - #15. Lots #16 through #19 will be proof-rolled on the following day once the topsoil has been removed. the proof-roll was performed with a loaded off-road truck. Any pumping was shown to the contractor and will be excavated until stable ground is achieved. Probe rod testing was used to check the stability of the residual soils as well. In areas with +10ft of fill, the contractor plans to place a lift of crushed concrete, and then a bridge lift. The contractor is spreading one lift of approximately 12 inches of topsoil across the excavation area to dry and then mix into the fill material as it is excavated. Our representative recommended to remove any large organics that were present. The organics were shown to the contractor, and they agreed to the removal. The contractor is attempting to mix the topsoil gradually into the fill material to help decrease the amount of stockpiled topsoil. This was a decision made by the contractor and not recommended by ASEC. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
