Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The grading crews continued placing 6-to-12-inch lifts of soil across Lots #14 through #19. Lifts were compacted using an 815 sheep-foot roller. The fill used in this area appears to have a large quantity of weathered rock mixed in with finer soils (50/50 mix). It was recommended to remove any large rocks (greater than 2 feet in size) from the fill that was going to be placed within 4 feet of final grade. The contractor is attempting to remove any large rock. The weathered rock that is less than 2 feet in size appears to be breaking down once the sheep-foot rolls in the lifts. ASEC watched as loaded off road trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping or deflection present across Lots #16 through #19. There was pumping present in Lots #14 and #15 due to over saturated soils. The contractor agreed to scarify this area and allow the soil to aerate. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. The wall crew continued installation of retaining wall #3. This wall will be completed today, and then they plan to begin retaining wall #5. The grading crew will begin excavation of the footing for retaining wall #5 and ASEC will schedule the automatic DCP testing truck to be onsite. Density testing was performed on every basket, and test results were provided to the contractor. Any failed tests were addressed and then retested. The pipe crew began installation and backfilling of sewer pipeline 1.3 to 2.0 (located in roadway near Lots #20 through #26). The sewer structures appear to be waterproofed. The contractor also sealed the joints of the structures with a tar like material and then wrapped the joint with plastic. The contractor stated this was to the spec provided by the county. Density testing was performed once the contractor backfilled approximately 2 to 4 feet over the pipelines. Test results were provided to the contractor, and any failed tests were addressed and then retested. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
