Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Crew 1 performed backfilling operations at locations B3–B5. Backfill material was placed around the installed manholes and storm pipes in lifts of approximately 6–8 inches. Each lift was compacted using a drum roller for the general backfill and a jumping jack plate compactor around the manholes and confined areas. At the same time, Crew 2 began work between points C1 and B6. The crew excavated the soil to the required depth and leveled the subgrade to prepare for pipe installation. Gravel bedding was then placed and graded. Corrugated metal pipes (CMP) were installed from B6 toward C1 and aligned to the specified grade. At C1, a manhole was installed and connected to the incoming pipe. The gap between the manhole and the pipe was sealed with concrete. Following installation, backfill material was placed around the manhole and pipe in lifts of approximately 6–8 inches and compacted. Meanwhile, Crew 3 started work at locations F2–F3. The crew excavated the soil, leveled the subgrade, and placed gravel bedding to prepare for pipe installation. Storm pipes were installed from the existing manhole outlet at F2 toward F3, and a new manhole was installed at F3. All pipe-to-manhole connections were sealed with concrete. Backfilling operations were then started; however, due to excessive moisture contents in the available soils, the material did not meet the required compaction density. The contractor indicated that no suitable dry backfill material was available at that time, and therefore backfilling activities at this location were suspended for the remainder of the day. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you. <div class="thumb_view"> <div class="row"></div> </div>
