Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. Curbs are being poured for the deceleration lane at the front entrance of the site. The wall crew placed approximately 6 inches of No. 57 stone with 6 inches of GAB cap over the 1-foot excavated area in the footing of retaining wall #2. Before the installation of rock, the contractor placed their geogrid under the rock. The GAB was compacted and then the wall crew began installation of retaining wall #2. Density testing was performed and test results were provided to the contractor. Elevations were confirmed from the grading crew and the wall crew. The pipe crew continued installation of SSMH. 1.6 to 1.7. The backfill material mainly consisted of rock (approx. 75% rock and 25% finer materials to fill voids). This area was visually inspected to evaluate compaction of the pipeline, as density testing with a gauge was not possible. The contractor spread lifts of approximately 12 inches in thickness across the trench and used a sheep-foot roller and trench roller to compact the lifts. This area appears to be well compacted. The final grade will be placed with finer material and tested. On Lots #32 through #40 and #85 through #92, topsoil was stripped and a proof-roll was performed with a loaded off-road truck. There was minimal pumping observed at this time. A small amount of pumping was present in the deepest part of the fill (+24ft). It was recommended to place a layer of large rock, that was stockpiled after being removed from structural fill, into this area. Then the contractor placed a thickened lift over the rock and began compacting the lifts with a sheep-foot roller. The grading crew started placing fill of approximately 12 inches in thickness along Lots #32 through #40 and #85 through #92 area. These lots are mainly being filled on the front yards and the roadway in between the lots. The pads for Lots #85 through #92 will be filled when retaining wall #1 has been installed. The pads for Lots #32 through #40 are cut pads and will be proof-rolled with a loaded off-road truck once finished excavating. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project.
