Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The grading crew is placing structural fill of approximately 8 to 12 inches in size across Lots #63 through #65. The soil lifts were compacted with a sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as loaded off road trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There was no severe pumping or deflection present at this time. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. Density testing was performed on the final grade of Lots #56 through #60. These test results showed poor compaction, and it was recommended to the contractor to recompact this area. The pipe crew continued installation of the OCS in the pond below Lots #56 through #65. Backfill was placed and compacted around the structure. Density testing was performed and test results were provided to the contractor. The pipe crew continued to excavate rock along the main pipeline going up the hill to the entrance of the site (approx. SSMH-13 to SSMH-14 area). It appeared that they were able to excavate the rock from the trench without using the jack hammer at this time. The contractors stated they would not be backfilling this pipeline today. It was recommended to remove any large rocks greater than 2 feet in diameter, and to use a finer structural fill material mixed in with the smaller rock when they begin backfilling to fill voids. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
