Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The grading crew continued placement of soil lifts of approximately 8 to 12 inches in size across Lots #42 through #50 and #85 through #92. These lots are within 2 feet of final grade and will be density tested once final grade is achieved. This area of fill is mainly on front yards and the roadway. Once retaining wall #1 is installed, the house pads will be filled and tested for compaction. The pipe crew is focusing on backfilling of curbs on the deceleration lane at the front entrance of the site, as well as any final touches to the deceleration lane before the scheduled proof-roll with the pavers. The wall crew continued installation of retaining wall #2. Soil lifts were placed in approximately 8 to 12 inches in size and compacted with a vibrating sheep-foot roller. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. The drilling crew drilled approximately 50 holes at a 3.5in diameter in a 10 feet x 10 feet grid pattern on the upper cut of the commercial lots. During previous excavation of this area, a very hard granite like rock was encountered and has been difficult for the contractor to excavate with their equipment. It appears that the hard rock was hit in one spot at 17 feet and in between 23 feet to 25feet deep in the 31-foot cut area. It appears that rock was hit in approximatley 17 of the 50 holes drilled. The contractor has requested a quantification of the rock to 31 feet deep as well as an additional 4 feet undercut added to this value. A copy of the drill log will be attached to the pictures in this report. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
