Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Crew continued backfilling operations in Lots #49, 50, 51, 52, 53, and 56. The fill material was placed in lifts and spread using a crawler bulldozer, and compaction was carried out using both a sheep-foot roller and a Caterpillar 815 compactor. During observation, it was observed that some areas did not meet the required density due to placement of thick lifts and insufficient compaction effort. Recommendations were provided to reduce lift thickness, properly moisture condition the soils, and increase compaction effort. After implementing these corrective measures, the reworked areas achieved the required density and met project specifications.

Crew working on the retaining wall construction. Vertical and horizontal reinforcement bars were installed and tied to form a rebar grid as per design requirements. Reinforcing steel appeared to be placed as per job specifications for size, spacing and quantity. Simultaneously, formwork panels were being assembled and positioned along the wall alignment. The formwork was supported with braces and framing members prior to concrete placement. Workers were observed performing tying and adjustments at elevated positions.

In the neighboring Buford area, trench excavation was carried out using a hydraulic excavator equipped with a rock grinder attachment to break through rock layers. The trench bottom was prepared and leveled, and No. 57 stone placed to provide a stable bedding surface and 9 feet of ductile iron pipe installed and connected to the existing pipeline.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
