Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Construction activities for the Taxiway, connector, and apron rehabilitation and expansion project commenced on Monday, March 23 at Tom B. David Airport in Calhoun, GA. C.W. Matthews Co. began grading operations. LEAD EDGE is serving as project engineering representing the airport, while UES (Zach) is representing airport Quality Assurance (QA). ASEC is performing Quality Control (QC) on behalf of the contractor.

Work activities began with milling of the existing asphalt pavement on Taxiway A3 using a Wirtgen W210.

Topsoil stripping operations were performed in the area of the future Taxiway A4 and the connector expansion from Sta 35+00 to st. 40+00. During excavation, organic material (tree stumps) was encountered beneath the proposed A4 alignment and within the future connector area at approximately Station 35+00. This condition was noted for further evaluation and will be addressed later in the week.

A trench was excavated for the future installation of 18-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) extending from the A1 flare to the A2 flare. Subgrade conditions within this trench were evaluated using a 3/8-inch probe, which penetrated approximately 1.5 feet, with likely oversaturated subgrade soil materials present. Remediation meeting for the subgrade in preparation for RCP installation is scheduled for Tuesday.

No additional observations were noted for the day.
