Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. On the above date our representative was on site to observe the grading contractor begin placing fill for the undercut area of building Lot #109, removing unsuitable organic debris materials. The writer observed one section of the undercut area verifying suitable in-place residual soils prior to continuing fill placement. The hauled in fill materials were visually classified as a sandy silt soil low in moisture content which was found difficult to compact. Our representative recommended blending the hauled in materials with some of the cleaner excavated clay base material to provide better compacting efforts and lessen haul-in amounts. The writer observed the first three feet of fill placement by probing using a rounded end steel rod and observing proof-rolling using a loaded tandem dump truck. The contractor mixed on-site and hauled in materials and placed in 6" to 8" lifts compacting with a loaded skid bucket and small vibratory sheep-foot roller. The fill placement and compacted efforts appeared suitable for job compaction requirements. The remaining fill placement will be observed and tested using a Troxler nuclear density gauge on March 28 by another ASEC representative. The writer also picked up a mixed sample of these blended soils and delivered them to our laboratory to perform a moisture-density relationship (proctor). We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
