Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. On the above date our representative visited the above site to observe the suitability of on-site excavated soils to be used as backfill material. The on-site excavated soils were found to be wet with estimated moisture contents of 6% to 7% over optimum which make it difficult in achieving 95% compaction. The writer also observed previous placed backfill over the 8" ductile iron sanitary sewer pipe between manholes #ss-2 and ss-1. The in-place fill was observed by probing using a rounded end steel rod which indicated that in-place saturated soils were below the required compaction requirement of 95%. It was recommended to mix on site wet soils with M-10 dry sand or recycled concrete to lower the moisture content of the on-site wet materials. A bag sample will need to be obtained after mixing to perform a Moisture-Density Relationship (proctor) test. The contractor was requested to call and schedule a time for pick up after mixing was completed. The contractor called late in the afternoon for pick up and the writer stated that a pick-up would be made on 3/28/26 for a proctor to be performed. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
