Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
At Lots #26, 27, and 28, density tests were performed and failed to meet the required compaction. A proof-roll was subsequently performed, during which movement was observed throughout all three pads. The subgrade soils exhibited pumping and rutting, indicating excessive moisture within the fill material. In response, the crew undercut approximately 1 foot of material from the affected areas to facilitate aeration and drying efforts. The exposed material was reworked using a sheep-foot roller, while loaded trucks were utilized to assist in kneading and proof-rolling the areas. Due to the wet conditions, the pads were left exposed to dry for the remainder of the day. Backfilling and re-compaction operations are scheduled to continue on the next working day once acceptable moisture conditions are achieved.

At Lots #33, 34, and 35, the crew performed cut operations to bring the pads down to the required design elevations, the exposed material was then reworked and compacted using a sheep-foot roller to prepare the areas for subsequent construction activities.

Elsewhere on site, the crew continued sewer installation from Manhole Z10 toward Manhole Z11. The trench subgrade was trimmed and leveled to the required line and grade, and No. 57 stone bedding was placed. Installed 8'' PVC pipe and following pipe installation, approximately 8 inches of loose backfill material was placed above the pipe; however, the material had not yet been compacted at the time of observation.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project.
