Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Upon arrival, it was observed that Kelley Construction was the contractor on site utilizing a skid steer, excavator, water truck, and trench packer.

It was determined that three excavations had previously been made in one lane of the roadway adjacent to Gate 54 for airfield repairs. Locations B and C had previously been backfilled, with the exception of the reinforced collars and concrete placement. At approximately 2:30 PM, the collars at Locations B and C were reinforced and concrete was placed (see photos). Following completion, temporary metal covers were placed over Locations B and C for safety. (No concrete testing was requested by QA or ATLNext for collars).

The collar at Location A was also reinforced prior to concrete placement (see photo). ASEC QC was unable to access Location A with the Troxler nuclear density gauge; however, QA (2MNext) was able to access the location and perform testing on the second lift.

Compaction testing was performed at approximately 3 to 4 feet below final grade. The initial test resulted in a failing compaction result. It was recommended that the contractor continue operating the trench packer in the area for additional time. Additional compaction was observed, after which another test was performed and resulted in a dry density of 133.0 pcf and a moisture content of 5.0%. A second test was performed to confirm the results and also passed. All parties were in agreement with the test results.
No further observations were made on this day. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
