Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. On the above date our representative was on site to observe the grading contractor Thompson correct rockfill placement at building Lot #25 as recommended by blading and spreading rockfill in a layer according to size then spreading a layer of soil fill over rock filling in the voids. It was also recommended to compact soil layer using the vibratory sheep-foot roller or the 815 cat roller then use an off road dump truck for additional compacting efforts. This procedure is recommended for continuing rockfill placement and also recommended to the contractor to a bring rock hammer onsite to break rock fill into smaller pieces (not exceeding 8" in diameter). The rockfill placement today was observed at elevations -18 and -15 feet below finished subgrade. The contractor was also reminded that all rockfill compacting efforts should extend at least ten feet outside of building perimeter. The writer observed the blasting contractor continue drilling at building Lots #14, 15 and 16 for blasting of hard rock. The pipe contractor continued backfilling storm lines between B4 and B5 using cleaner fill materials with compacting efforts suitable for 95% at elevation +3 to 5 feet over the pipeline. The pipe contractor Savannah also continued pushing 24" steel casing through opening under bridge for installation of 12"DIP sanitary sewer line. The pipe casing was welded at end sections prior to pushing. The writer observed the curbing contractor continue pouring approximately 420 lineal feet of type 7 curbing using a 3000-psi concrete mix at NatureWalk Parkway between sanitary sewer manholes #5 and 3. The writer observed the grading contractor continue subgrade preparatioin at Unit 4 phase 2 roadway. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
